TLT Solicitors

Project
Editing and writing for a series of monthly client newsletters

The Brief
TLT Solicitors distributes a series of legal newsletters, updates and briefings to clients and a range of other subscribers. Some of the publications are published in hard copy, others electronically. Historically, TLT has relied on internal staff, fee earners as well as marketing personnel, to write and edit the publications. However, to enhance the quality, consistency and readability of the publications, it decided to bring in external writing expertise. Newsletters

The Scope
TLT sends out around ten client publications each month, each to around 2,000 subscribers. Articles range from short news articles to lengthier legal analyses and case reports of up to 750 words. Much of the material is written by lawyers and can sometimes be quite technical and prone to ‘legal-ese’. A key part of Wordsworks’ role, therefore, is to edit the documents, ensuring that they are easy to read and to understand for non-lawyers as well as lawyers.

A popular feature of many of the publications is the client profile, featuring an interview with a TLT client. Wordsworks conducts all these interviews and writes the subsequent 600-word profiles.

The Results
Wordsworks has been working with TLT Solicitors since early 2004. In that time, we have helped produce over 50 newsletters, client briefs and other publications.

In addition, Wordsworks was asked to edit a series of in depth, technical legal articles that TLT lawyers had written for legal trade title, In-House Lawyer magazine. Each article was up to 3,000 words long. The focus was on ensuring readability, clarity and interest, while remaining sensitive to the sense and technical nuances of the often complex legal issue under discussion.
